Town Cutler was the first knife maker we ever met back in 2015. They were working from a small space in downtown San Francisco. Galan Garretson had been a chef with Tyler Florence and quit chef-ing to make chef-ing tools. Back then he sharpened knives and sold other makers in a very small downtown SF space, flash forward to 10 years to 2024 and he has a huge ‘mini-factory’ in Reno and only sells his knives – which come withe lifetime sharpening and care, of corse.
Town Cutler’s business is an inspiration in so many way, from press, to dialing in batch production and growing sales/distribution, Galan was so helpful in helping us understand the artisan chef knife market. The input Galan has given us over the years has been so valuable. You will see Town Cutler knives in a lot of my photo shoots, not only are the sharp, and beautiful, they are a great value for a hand crafted knife.
